Post standing is a fundamental practice of Xingyiquan. It has a number of functions, firstly it strengthens the body. As you can see from the various photos on this page, the postures used vary in the physical demands that they place upon the body. Secondly it helps the practitioner understand and improve the alignment of joints and relaxation of muscle. Thirdly standing practice is used as a form of meditation. The Wu Ji and Santishi postures are usually used for this aspect of practice. Wu Ji is a philosophical term. It refers to the most primary phenomenon of the cosmos. In Xingyiquan it illustrates the point that before practising the art, one should be empty in the mind; without any thought or intention. Santishi which means "Three Body Posture" is at the very core of training and develops many of the physical and mental qualities essential to the development of martial ability. Newcomers to Xingyiquan often have difficulty at first understanding (believing) that something so simple can create something so powerful. | ||||||
